7 March 2019

We are delighted to announce that Lincolnshire Music Education Hub has won the Music Education Council Music Education Major Award for 2018.

The winner was revealed at the Rhinegold Music Teacher Awards for Excellence in London on Wednesday 6 March 2019. The Music Education Council (MEC) Major Award celebrates imaginative, inclusive and all-round high-quality music provision.

In presenting the award MEC Trustee and Awards Panel Chair, Lincoln Abbott said: “The MEC Music Education Major Award aims to highlight and share the very best practice in delivering music education. As ever, the awards panel had a very difficult job considering the reports of the great work detailed in the award submissions. Lincolnshire’s was an application that exuded music and energy from a Hub that has demonstrated strong leadership and real resilience. The Panel noted the innovate digital work that is taking place as well as specific projects including Samba-City and Singsation as well as the thinking around progression routes through World Music.”

Lincolnshire Music Education Hub saw off strong competition from other excellent shortlisted Hubs: Accent Music Education Hub (serving Warrington and Halton), Bristol Plays Music and East Ayrshire Music Service.

Councillor Mrs Patricia Bradwell, Executive Councillor for Children's Services, said: "This is a strong endorsement for the quality of music education in Lincolnshire, now recognized on a national scale. Children and young people from schools and music groups throughout our county have the platform to learn instruments, join bands, choirs and orchestras, of which we have some of the best in the country. The Lincolnshire Education Music Hub is a fine example of partners coming together to provide a range of opportunities for young people to develop and showcase their musical talent. Congratulations and I look forward to the Hub building on this success for the benefit of many more young people."

Jennifer McKie, Senior Music Adviser for Lincolnshire Music Service said: “We’re absolutely over the moon to receive this award, which has only been possible thanks to our amazing team, partners, schools and talented young people. We firmly believe in the power of music to have long lasting impact for young people and this is at the heart of everything we do.”
