How is the Cultural Capital in your school?

20 May 2019

Culture and creativity have always been important in our schools but with the new proposed Ofsted framework, the benefits of an inclusive cultural offer will be even more important in delivering the quality of education that the government, parents and pupils expect.

Embarking on a cultural journey doesn’t have to be daunting. Giving EVERY child access to high quality music opportunities regardless of circumstance or background is at the heart of the Lincolnshire Music Education Hub.

Schools are being encouraged to demonstrate the ‘Quality of Education’ on offer through the three i’s: Intent, Implementation and Impact. We can:

  • support schools, and their governing body, to design and deliver a rich and varied curriculum aiming to give all learners the knowledge and cultural capital to succeed in life.
  • ensure that teachers present all aspects of this broad and balanced curriculum visibly encouraging discussion and whole hearted engagement of pupils.
  • encourage learners to develop detailed knowledge and skills across the whole curriculum thus following a greater emphasis on the behaviour and attitudes of pupils and less emphasis on data.

Lincolnshire Music Service offers high quality music tuition and events in a range of styles and genres. We support schools through our flexible Music Membership, working in partnership and offering high quality opportunities to help schools achieve a broad and balanced curriculum; ensuring musical progression for every child and supporting and meeting the needs of Ofsted.

Enhanced support for those individual children or classes who would benefit from a more bespoke approach can be provided through specialist projects such as our current Open Orchestras project, creating orchestras accessible to disabled young people.
