Princess and the Pea is a ‘Once Upon a Time’ programme for FS2 children aged 4-5 based on the narrative of one of our best-loved fairy tales.
We have commissioned ‘Once Upon a Time’ in partnership with North East Lincolnshire Music Service. The composer, Sue Nicholls, is a leading specialist in early years’ music and has written for many publications including Music Express.
‘Once Upon a Time’ will start with a CPD twilight for teaching staff led by Sue Nicholls. All participants attending the CPD will receive a resource pack which includes:
- CD of the 6 songs and narrative
- Classroom activities based around ‘Princess and the Pea’
- Preparation tips for the event
- Settings will then learn the 6 simple songs prior to the live event.
The event will consist of a live music ensemble and narrator presenting a 45 minute performance based on the narrative. This will include participation from the pupils with songs and other activities.
Dates are negotiable and will be discussed upon application. This does depend on the availability of teaching staff and also the professionals involved.
This exciting programme is linked directly to the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage focusing on the specific areas of:
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
‘Once Upon a Time’ will ignite the imagination of the children as well as provide opportunities for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement and role-play.
